Chapter 561
Le Su had been reading for an hour now. She figured her little furball must have scared off that pesky mouse by now. Maybe if she opened the door, the rodent would scurry out on its own. She decided to check.
Approaching the study door, she found it still closed. She reached out, cracked it open just a slit, then snapped it shut again, listening intently. The room beyond was eerily silent.
"Meow!" she called out playfully, trying to coax her feline companion.
But only dead silence answered. Le Su's heart suddenly pounded against her ribs. Where was her precious kitten?
She turned the study upside down—peering under the sofa, behind the curtains, even climbing a ladder to check the bookshelves. No sign of the fluffy white ragdoll anywhere.
"Oh my god! Where could she be? CanCan! CanCan, where are you?" Panic clawed at Le Su's throat. This was her uncle's beloved pet—losing it would be disastrous!
Slamming the study door shut, she flew downstairs and cornered a maid. "Has anyone entered
