Chapter 27 We Broke Up

The day had started off like any other. I sat across from my client, Mr. Hughes, discussing the final design plans for his new home. His eyes scanned over the blueprint in front of him while I walked him through the last-minute adjustments.
"Since you wanted an open-concept kitchen, we removed the wall here," I said, pointing at the sketch. "This will allow for more natural light to flow through the living area. It also makes the space feel much larger."
Mr. Hughes nodded, tapping a finger against his chin thoughtfully. "And what about the materials for the countertops? I was thinking of switching to quartz instead of marble."
"That’s a great choice," I responded with a small smile. "Quartz is more durable and low-maintenance. Plus, it doesn’t stain as easily as marble does, so it’s a practical option, especially if you entertain guests often."
Just as Mr. Hughes opened his mouth to reply, my phone started vibrating on the table. I glanced at the screen. Nicholas.
