Chapter 1256
Matthew hopped out of the truck and climbed onto its top. He pulled back the tarp, then jumped down and loosened the ropes.
Grabbing two sacks of ginger from the truck bed, he opened them and spilled ginger onto the concrete.
Miles came over. "Matthew, don't unload it yet. Something feels really wrong."
On the way in, Miles had seen how every produce wholesaler froze at the sight of ginger entering the market as if a monster were passing by.
Some of them had even followed the truck. Now that it had parked, they stood a short distance away, whispering.
Miles grew more and more uneasy. Matthew paused and looked around. Indeed, many people had gathered not far off. Others were coming from a distance, crowding closer.
He had known to expect trouble but never imagined such an intense reaction. Still, it was too late. Whatever might happen, he had to keep going.
Matthew shouted, "Alright, everyone. Move along. Don't interfere with me selling my ginger."
