"I don't know what you're planning, but please, leave Lucas out of it," I pleaded again, hoping Edwin would listen to me for once. "Trust me, he's been through enough already, and I don't want to see him get hurt."
Edwin's laughter was cold and hollow as he responded, "You don't need to worry about Lucas, Shana. He's an alpha male. He's perfectly capable of taking care of himself... Just remember to watch your own back. Wolfless need the most help."
With that, he turned and walked away, disappearing back toward the parking lot as if he were never there in the first place.
I was left standing alone in the dimly lit alley, my thoughts in a wild turmoil.
I didn't want to admit it, but Edwin's comments had let doubt and uncertainty fester within me. I couldn't help but question what it all meant.
