I didn’t bother waiting for the music to fade or the laughter to die down. The moment the weight in my chest became too much, I excused myself and left the restaurant early. My mind felt too full, my wolf too restless, and my heart too close to spiraling.
When I stepped into the apartment, Mira turned from the TV, eyebrows lifting. “Hey, Kara. Back so early?”
“Yeah,” I forced a faint smile. “Got tired.”
It wasn’t a lie. I was tired—just not from work but everything that happened.
Mira nodded and turned back to her show. I slipped into my room and closed the door. The second it clicked shut, my shoulders dropped.
Narah stirred sharply inside me. “We’re running out of time. Start the plan”.
“I know,” I whispered.
I tossed my bag onto the bed, kicked off my heels, and pulled the folder from the drawer. The documents fanned out across my desk—Alpha Rights Transfer forms… and my divorce papers.
