Before, Evan would have retaliated without hesitation. But now, he merely wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and swallowed the humiliation. His voice was low as he said, "I don't want to fight you, Jarrett. I'll give you whatever you want if you ask Josie to forgive me." Jarrett's expression darkened instantly. A flash of disbelief crossed his face. "Josie, he's… your ex?" Joselyn's face paled. Meanwhile, Evan turned to Jarrett again, lowering himself even further. "Let me be with her, Jarrett. I'll give you anything. Just let me have her." Jarrett's eyes grew even colder. Without warning, he landed another punch straight to Evan's face. Evan didn't fight back.
