When Harvey arrived, my so-called father had me by the hair, dragging me up. I had to admit his grip was as strong as ever.
Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth and dripped into the dirt. My vision was blurred from the swelling around my eyes. I could only make out Harvey's silhouette vaguely.
He kicked open that rotting door. Sunlight flooded in immediately. And in the bastard's panicked mind, that line I always said to him echoed back.
"Why don't you just kidnap me and ask Harvey for ransom?"
This was the seed I'd planted in his mind. He lived up to expectations and pressed the gun to my temple. I was now like a rag doll in his hands.
"Don't move! Or I'll kill her!" he shouted at Harvey.
I couldn't see Harvey's expression clearly. That disappointed me a little. But I imagined that this scene, so similar to Enna's death, must have drained the color from his face.
"What do you want?" he asked. "I'll give you anything. Just don't hurt her."
