Chapter 85: The Kashi Family Business No Longer Necessary
Helen and Kashi questioned the old lady for a long time, but she remained tight-lipped. This made Helen increasingly impatient.
The atmosphere at the dinner table became tense once again.
It was at this moment that Irene stepped through the door.
The moment Emma saw Irene, her eyes lit up. She happily stood behind Irene, giving up her seat for her.
Kashi instinctively looked towards the courtyard.
Irene sneered, "Who are you looking for?"
Kashi put on a pretense of a warm smile, "My child, I think there's been a misunderstanding between us. It's time to clear it up and reconcile."
Irene's lips curled up, "Which misunderstanding? The one where you married me off to an old man who abused his wife to death, or the one where you almost drove me to suicide?"
Yuna had been sitting outside for a while. Seeing the lights on inside, she got anxious, grabbed some milk, and knocked on the door, just in time to hear this.
The Kashi old lady was well-liked. Besides Yuna, there were a few other neighbors around.
Hearing Irene's words, everyone's perception of Kashi changed instantly.
Being so cruel to his own daughter, it was no wonder he ignored the old lady.
Helen couldn't stand being the subject of gossip and angrily slammed the door.
This only made the neighbors' chatter louder.
"What kind of person is that?"
"So rude! A disgrace in human skin!"
"No wonder she ignores her husband’s mother. She’s not a good person at all!"
Helen's face turned black, and she vented her anger on Irene the moment she saw her, calm and composed. "Didn't the big boss come back with you? All grown up and beautiful, no wonder you could seduce him."
Madame Kashi's hands trembled with anger.
She knew she shouldn't have let them in if they were just pretending!
At that moment, the old lady completely let go of any so-called familial affection.
Irene chuckled and turned to the old lady, "Grandma, don't be upset. You've met him. He's the one who came to our house to invest today."
The old lady relaxed slightly but remained cautious.
After all, her family had no particular advantage. Why would the boss of such a big company invest here?
Helen's words reminded her that while their family had no advantage, they did have a beautiful granddaughter in her prime.
The old lady held Irene's hand, her voice shaking, "Irene, tell Grandma, did he force you?"
Irene smiled wryly, "No, Grandma, you're overthinking it. Mr. Percy came to invest in small enterprises and personal studios with potential. They decided after thoroughly researching our live streaming."
The old lady felt reassured.
"They see everything through a lewd lens." Irene's gaze fell coldly on Kashi. "If it weren't for the fact that you share Grandma's blood, I wouldn't let you off so easily."
Kashi and Helen exchanged amused looks.
"Let's bankrupt the Kashi family business." Irene said lightly.
Helen burst into laughter, "Just you? Who do you think you are? Do you have such a good relationship with your backer? Will he stand up for you?"
Irene stopped the furious Emma and chuckled, "Just wait and see."
Helen gritted her teeth.
She hated the confidence that radiated from the young girl, as if her words were true.
Though her rational mind told her it was impossible, her brain trembled with fear.
Helen spat venomously, "Don't think sleeping with an old man can destroy us! We are not like you! You're just a bitch!"
Smack!
Helen's eyes widened as she clutched her stinging cheek.
Irene calmly retracted her hand.
Helen, furious, rushed at her, "How dare you! You country bumpkin! I'll kill you!"
Irene coldly watched Helen, whose anger made her look particularly ugly.
How pathetic.
Irene raised her hand and slapped her again, the movement almost graceful, "Shut up."
Helen went berserk, flailing wildly.
Smack!
Another loud slap, "Why are there people who ask for it?"
Helen lost it completely, her hair disheveled from the violent shaking, "Hit her back! Hit her back, you hear me!"
She never imagined she'd be humiliated by someone she looked down upon!
Kashi frowned and stood up, intending to intervene.
But before he could, he was kicked so hard he crashed into the wall.
Clutching his stomach, Kashi curled up on the ground, barely able to move, every breath a fiery pain.
Irene's kick used at least seventy percent of her usual force.
Kashi coughed, spitting out blood.
Helen was terrified into silence, her face white as a sheet.
Irene's eyes were filled with intense hostility, "Grandma is here. I didn't want to get violent, but you all really need a beating."
She grabbed Kashi and yanked him up with a slight effort.
Kashi's tears flowed from the pain, his body curling up. He looked at the old lady, "Mom, control her! How can she hit her parents?"
The old lady looked at her miserable son and then at her terrified daughter-in-law, and slowly nodded.
Kashi shouted, "See? Even Grandma can't stand you!"
Irene raised an eyebrow.
The old lady frowned, "How can you leave marks when you hit? Have I taught you nothing? What if they press charges?"
Irene snickered, "Don't worry, Grandma, there are no marks."
Kashi's eyes widened in shock.
He lifted his shirt, revealing his round, slightly red belly, without a single footprint.
The old lady nodded in satisfaction.
Irene turned her crimson eyes to Kashi, "Do you know that's your mother? I know that's my grandma, do you?"
Kashi, feeling guilty, avoided Irene's gaze and loudly proclaimed, "Of course I know! I send her money every month!"
Despite his loud voice, his body shrank back, looking particularly comical.
Irene kicked him again.
This time, all the neighbors heard it clearly.
Yuna, who had been worried about the old lady, now feared the couple would be beaten to death.
