Madelyn had a rough night's sleep. She woke up a little after six. Her head throbbed as she went downstairs. 'Maybe I caught a cold because I left the window open,' she thought, noticing how chilly the mornings had become compared to the warm days. When she was in the living room downstairs, she saw a servant cleaning the kitchen. It looked like she had just started cleaning. There was a mess on the floor with broken plates scattered around. Madelyn asked, "What happened here?" "Ms. Jent," the servant called her before explaining, "It was probably due to a mouse last night. Mr. Jardin instructed that all the dishes in the kitchen be replaced to avoid contamination." Madelyn looked around and asked, "Where's Margaret?" The servant responded, "She has been assigned to the backyard. She should be washing vegetables now. Do you need something from her? Should I call her for you?" "It's fine." Madelyn smiled slightly.
