#CHAPTER 63: Forgiveness

Mila’s breath caught in her throat as I said those words.
“I love you,” I said again, hoping to drive the point home as much as possible.
“You don’t mean that,” she said softly, but even I knew that she was simply trying to convince herself as much as me. “You don’t have to say that.”
“I do,” I told her. “I love you more than the sun and moon and stars and it breaks my heart that I will never be able to make you see that. I would go to the corners of the earth for you, Mila. I never want to lose you again.”
Mila sank down onto her bed. It was only in that moment that I realized it was not a bed at all, rather, a large chair that she was being forced to sleep in. I made a mental note to have a stern conversation with Mila’s adoptive family later.
