Chapter 5 Humiliation

“You!” The woman was so angry that her fingertips were trembling. “Mason Yeich, who do you think you are? Do you think I would have even looked at you if you weren’t the Second Young Master of the Yeich family? Do you think you’re some treasure who can refuse me multiple times? You’re just a cripple!” Mason’s eyes turned dark after being called a cripple, the hostility rolling off him in waves. Standing on the sidelines, Claire could not help but feel that she had stumbled upon some secrets… The woman intended to say a few more harsh words but became intimidated by his hostility. Looking at his dark eyes, she could only dust herself off vehemently. The woman did not even notice Claire as she said to Mason before leaving, “Mason Yeich, just you wait. One day, I’ll have you on your knees begging me.” With that, the woman left. Only Mason and Claire were left at the scene. Claire was still sitting on the cold floor. She had no idea where to look. “Seems that I have underestimated you.” A cold gaze landed on the top of Claire’s head. Claire raised her head and said instinctively, “I... I didn’t hear anything just now…” “You f*ck off as well!” Mason ordered. Claire’s delicate eyebrows wrinkled as she said seriously, “I’ll be your assistant from today onwards. Besides, weren’t you the one who asked me to get to the office myself? As she finished speaking, Claire got up from the floor and strode over to stand behind Mason’s wheelchair, placing her hands on the handles of his wheelchair. “I’ve already got myself over. Shouldn’t it be time for you to keep your promise as well?” Claire did not wait for him to reply before she pushed him inside while asking, “What do you need me to do?” Mason did not answer, but the aura surrounding him became even stronger and more compelling. He laughed coolly as he said, “It seems that you do not know the spelling of the word ‘die’.” Claire pursed her lips together. “I don’t want to be your assistant either, but this was what Grandfather intended.” “Are you holding him over me?” “What for? I’m a victim as well.” Claire noticed that the office was in a state of disarray. There were even some documents strewn across the floor. That must have been done by the woman who had just left. As the thought occurred in her mind, she bent down and picked up the papers, arranging them on top of the desk. Mason’s gaze darkened as he watched this series of actions. Just then, Simon entered the room. “Young Master Yeich, the meeting is starting in five minutes.” Simon started as he saw Claire. He did not think that she would have followed them. Mason was going to just have Simon wheel him away and leave, but a glint of harshness flashed through his eyes as something occurred to him. “Want to be an assistant? Here’s a job for you.” In the conference room. Claire followed behind Mason as they walked in. Her appearance caused looks of surprise on the faces of everyone present. Everyone knew that Mason had only had Simon at his side. Now that there was the addition of a woman, everyone wanted to know his relationship with her. It was not that Claire had never been an assistant before, but she had never worked in a setting as large as this. The conference room in Yeich Group was exceptionally large. After all, it was the leading group in North City. Once inside, Claire felt that the place came with a pressure of its own. Her shoulders dropped a few points without her realizing it as she accepted the various looks thrown towards her. Until they came to a stop, the eyes of the crowd were fixated on Claire. “President Yeich, who is this?” Liam was one of the vice presidents of Yeich Group and was taking part in the meeting. He started lightly when he saw Claire enter the room. Nervous, Claire pinched the corner of her coat and tried to tell herself that there was nothing to be scared about. As she slowly raised her head and met with the audience’s inquisitive fazes, her eyes met a warm gaze. It was from Liam. As their eyes met, a warm smile appeared on Liam’s face as he nodded in acknowledgment towards Claire. At that moment, Claire felt as if she was not as nervous anymore. Pressing her lips together, she smiled at Liam as well. Claire felt that Liam was an extremely gentle person. These actions did not escape Mason’s eyes. A cold flash appeared in his eyes as they narrowed. “Caregiver.” “Huh?” The audience could not understand. What did Mason mean by ‘caregiver’? Even Claire could not get it. “President Yeich, who did you say she was again?” Mason’s eyes were as black as the night sky. He raised his eyebrows as he responded to the person who had asked the question, “A caregiver. Grandfather hired her to take care of me.” Claire’s face paled at the malicious words. She lowered her eyes to look at him. She was supposed to be his assistant. Why had she become his caregiver? “Coffee.” As she was deep in thought, Mason spoke coldly. Claire stood unmoving. Simon, who had understood the hidden meaning behind Mason’s words, winked at Claire. Only then did she react. Alright, making coffee, that was part of an assistant’s job as well. Claire left the conference room to make coffee. When she came back with the coffee, the meeting had already started. Claire placed the coffee in front of Mason. After taking a sip, Mason’s eyebrows wrinkled. “Are you trying to kill me with this sweetness?” Simon’s expression darkened. “Young Master Yeich does not take sugar in his coffee.” “Change it!” Claire had no choice, but to make a fresh cup of coffee for Mason. “It’s too bland.” Change it again! Hah, there’s too little water in this. The conference room had become an arena for everyone to watch Mason bullying others. The stares coming from all directions made Claire want to crawl into a hole. She wanted to lose her temper and pour the coffee all over Mason’s head while telling him she was done. However, when she thought of her parents at home, Claire repressed her temper and went out to make a fresh cup of coffee. Bang! He slammed the cup heavily on the table, startling everyone nearby. “How do you expect to be my caregiver if that’s all you got?” Claire stood rooted to the spot, her face flush white. Sitting not too far away, Liam frowned slightly as he could not help but say, “Mason, that’s enough.” Oh? Speaking up for her? It seemed that this woman was good at what she did. The smile on Mason’s lips grew even colder. “Brother, are you feeling sorry for my caregiver? Should I give her to you?” Liam, “...” Fingertips trembling, Claire bit on her lower lip. This was too much! She finally understood why he had agreed to let her stay. It was just so she could be humiliated! In Mason’s eyes, she was nothing more than a woman who would do anything to marry into a family of riches and gold. That was why he hated her so much. “Mason, why are you doing this? After all, she’s your…” Before the word ‘wife’ could leave his tongue, he was interrupted coolly by Simon. “It’s just a cup of coffee, don’t you think you’re butting in too much into other people’s business, vice president Yeich?” Liam seemed to want to say more in defense of Claire, but before he could say anything, she said before him, “I’ll make a fresh cup for Young Master Yeich right now.” After saying that, she grabbed the cup and left. One cup, two cups, three cups… Claire ran back and forth for as long as the meeting went on. Mason was never satisfied, but she did not even complain once. When the meeting ended, she was still making coffee. Simon was beginning to pity her. When he saw that everyone had left, he bent down and whispered to Mason, “Young Master Yeich, why don’t we stop now? As long as she has learned her lesson.” Mason laughed coldly. “If you don’t treat a woman as vain as her this way, who knows when she’ll understand to back off?” He was intrigued to see how long she could endure it.
