Chapter 45 Attempted Suicide

Of course, Wei Ruxuan might look stupid, naive, or stubborn; however, he never gave up. Whenever he had the opportunity, he would go to the teacher asking for help. Deep in his heart, Wei Ruxuan was still waiting for someone to bring him justice. Wu Shuang didn’t say a word because he knew that the boy would never grow up and have a strong mind if he didn’t suffer. Wei Ruxuan’s persistence had irritated many. Eventually, his classmates even wanted to beat him to death. Wu Shuang’s protective attitude had already made them jealous and sour, and it was almost impossible to reason with these impulsive young men. Once again, Wei Ruxuan went to the teacher’s office. And as always, he was avoided. But this time, something was different. After he left the office, Wei Ruxuan was surrounded by a flock of students. Knowing Wu Shuang wasn’t around, some of the leading students decided to take the great chance to finally put what they had been planning into practice. They were not afraid of their teacher, nor did they think he would believe Wei Ruxuan. But they were still annoyed by Wei Ruxuan’s behavior of constantly snitching on them. The students around were not only cheering and laughing but also hurling all kinds of insults at him. No one had said a word in his defense, and no one would try to save him. They had waited for this moment for too long. At first, Wei Ruxuan was taunted and verbally abused. Then his clothes were torn apart. Then there were punches and kicks. Things got worse and worse. In the end, the crowds even brought whips and burning candles to physically hurt him. Under the protection of Wu Shuang, Wei Ruxuan was kept away from all the malice. Yet today, he got to feel everyone’s fury combined. The crowds were giving full vent to their disgust. Although Wei Ruxuan regarded himself as a strong man, he was still an ordinary being! He was a well-raised young master, the Prime Minister’s only son. But even a commoner could not endure such inhuman treatment. The pain on the outside was nothing compared with that on the inside. Wei Ruxuan’s heart was dead. Feeling sick in his stomach, he threw out in front of everyone. Until then, did the excited students frown and leave with disgust. The crowd dispersed, yet he kept holding himself, sitting there helplessly. Tears dropped, falling to the ground. A sour smell flew from his pile of vomit, but nothing could make him more shameful than himself right now. For the first time, he wanted to end his life. No one could recognize him as a noble young master once they saw those hollow eyes. Wei Ruxuan looked like a dirty piece of cloth that anyone could step on. He didn’t even seem alive. A beautiful man walked over slowly and put a man-size robe on his body. Wei Ruxuan raised his head, looking at him with his unfocused eyes. Wu Shuang was still as warm as the first ray of sunshine in spring. Wei Ruxuan really appreciated his unchanged sincerity. But Wei Ruxuan could no longer accept himself. He felt he was already too dirty to be touched by Wu Shuang. Clasping his ripped clothes tightly, he unconsciously avoided Wu Shuang’s hands. Of course, Wu Shuang was not mad at that poor humble boy. He called Xuan Zhi to bring him a sword and slew a big black dog in front of Wei Ruxuan. He stabbed and stabbed without a second of hesitation as if he was cutting vegetables. During the whole time, Wu Shuang’s face didn’t even show any expression. Behind his filthy vomit, Wei Ruxuan sat on the ground blankly. He watched how the big dog turned from a living creature to a corpse. Its blood flowed everywhere, dyeing the soil, and his heart as well. The day had passed. Sometimes, the sun shone hot. Sometimes, it shone warmly. But it never again cast a light on Wei Ruxuan’s heart. Ever since that day, he had never left his room. Hiding under the quilt, the boy with a wounded heart had no appetite. But Wu Shuang took great care of him. Up till now, Wu Shuang had been the only person he felt comfortable with. However, one day when he was left alone in the room, Wei Ruxuan took the knife on the table and cut both of his wrists. He was not afraid as his blood flowed out slowly and his body began to get cold, but then he thought about Wu Shuang. That gentle and warm person who had been with him all the time. Suddenly, Wei Ruxuan didn’t want to give up on life. He didn’t want to die. Blood kept flowing like a symbol of his life fading fast away. At that moment, he decided that if he could survive, he would revenge himself on every single student who had bullied him. Fortunately, Wu Shuang came back in time and saved him on his death bed. The attempted suicide finally shook the college. Not until then did the teacher realize Wei Ruxuan was really in trouble. As for the president, he nearly passed out when he got to know that the student cutting his wrists was Wei Ruxuan, the Prime Minister’s only son. It never occurred to him that such an incredible thing would happen in his college. If the Prime Minister ever got the news, his head might be off! Most of the leading students involved were children of aristocratic families. Back at home, they were already lawless bullies who lived dependently on their parents. It wasn’t until the president talked to them that they knew how big a mistake they had made. They had picked the wrong guy, someone with a family background much superior to theirs. The college expelled them immediately, as well as the teacher who had done nothing to help. The students fled home in embarrassment and regret, but the past couldn’t be rewritten. The only thing they could do was praying to God that no one else knew what they did and that Wei Ruxuan could forgive them. Not daring to tell the Prime Minister the truth, the president of Yunfeng College could only visit Wei Ruxuan frequently, hoping he wouldn’t make a great deal of it. Similarly, the once irresponsible teachers became concerned about Wei Ruxuan all of a sudden, fearing that they might be fired too! But Wei Ruxuan just lay in his bed and responded to no one. The whole college was overwhelmed in tension. Wu Shuang walked quietly towards Wei Ruxuan, sat on his bed, and pulled down the quilt on his head. “Ruxuan, it’s been a long time. I think we can talk about it now. If you still don’t want to speak, just listen to me. Everything can be overcome no matter how hard it is. You’re a man. And a man lets his actions do the talking. Remember, no one can defeat you but yourself.” Hearing his words, Wei Ruxuan calmed down but still kept silent. Wu Shuang continued, “Are you gonna stay this way forever? I won’t respect someone this weak.” Wei Ruxuan finally responded. After a long time of silence, his voice was dry and hoarse, his body sluggish, but he finally looked like a living human being. “Wu Shuang, tell me, why did they have to pick me?” “To kill or be killed. That’s the law of survival we’re born to follow. No one will sympathize with the weak. In this dog-eat-dog world, if you don’t want to be trampled on, you must be strong.” “I’m too weak, right?” “Yeah, Ruxuan, you must grow stronger. Only by then can you protect the one you care about and get everything you want.” “The one I care about? Everything I want?” Wei Ruxuan said, raising his weak eyes and looking at Wu Shuang. It seemed that he had made up his mind. “Let me tell you a story!” “Alright.” “Once upon a time, there was a child born into a well-off family. His parents loved him so much, but they were killed before he grew up. The killer took the child home and raised him as his own property. The child had no idea what he lived for besides being someone’s property, a killer’s property. Every day his life was pointless, until one day, he met someone who changed his life. That person was the first one to bring him care, hope, and even love. With that person, the child understood the meaning of life. It was the happiest time for him. He could finally rely on someone and even get spoiled however he wanted. But the child then was still too weak and useless. There was nothing he could do but cry, and the killer wouldn’t let the child go. So once again, his loved one was slaughtered. The child was forced to watch him dying and was raped. Those bad people killed everyone who tried to save him while the others just stood by. In the end, the child survived. He forced himself to look the villains in their eyes and engrave their faces in his mind.” Wu Shuang’s voice was soft. He still sounded kind of emotional, but it wasn’t very obvious. He had learned to control himself as long as he wasn’t agitated. Most of the time, no matter how horrible he felt inside, he remained a serene face. “What happened to that child?” “If you were him, what would you do?” “I would kill them all. What did the child do then?” For the first time, Wei Ruxuan appeared to be aggressive. Wu Shuang looked at him, his eyes flashing with satisfaction. “Who knows? Maybe he is taking revenge on those who have hurt him step by step.” Time waits for no man. In the face of difficulty, Wei Ruxuan only had himself to rely on. He would never grow up unless he stood up by himself and overcame it. Day by day, Wei Ruxuan’s condition had improved. He just became even more indifferent. Only towards Wu Shuang would he show some tenderness again. With that painful experience, he naturally didn’t want to stay at the college. Wei Ruxuan didn’t ask the president for anything, except for a list of those who had bullied him. Unexpectedly, Wu Shuang decided to go with him. This was probably the only good news for him. God knows how reluctant he was to part with Wu Shuang.
