Chapter 59 Let’s Have Some Tea
The boy aside immediately stopped her and ignored Ruxin. He coaxed the six-year-old girl to walk her away, “Yunyun, it’s not worth it to get your dad mad because of a low-life woman. Let’s go play elsewhere.”
Ruxin didn’t care what the boy was saying. After all, she had already been guilty because her plan, once completed, would cause them harm. But all of a sudden, she saw Princess Consort Yi hiding around the corner, eyes full of pride. This made things different. Ruxin had to keep playing the role of a mean homewrecker now. Quickly adjusting herself, she smiled with a touch of irony, “When I give birth to the heir of Lord Yi, you will be kicked out of here and live on the streets. We’ll see who’s the real low-life person.” Ruxin bent over and touched Yun Youyun’s cute little face, scaring the little girl straight into crying. Immediately hugging his little cousin to comfort her, the boy stepped away with the girl from Ruxin.
“Ruxin, do you know what shame is? How could you do that to a child?” Princess Consort Yi didn’t show up until her baby girl started crying. Anxious and mad, she hurried to carry the girl up in her arms and comfort her for a long time before putting her down.
“Ask Hai if I know what shame is. He’s with me all the time on and off the bed! I guess I’ll give birth to a son of his very soon.”
“You, you, you have no manners.”
“That’s none of your business. But speaking of manners, you’d better keep an eye on your kids. If Hai knows the kids parented by you have cursed me, who do you think he will feel bad for? Me, or you, the wife he doesn’t love?”
“You know what? As the hostess of this mansion, I do need to teach you how to behave.” She was so furious that she reached out her hand, trying to slap Ruxin on her face.
Of course, Ruxin avoided her slap. But then she slapped herself with her back towards all the servants. After a loud sound, Ruxin’s tears streamed down her cheeks. Everyone there was terrified. Ruxin was the apple of the lord’s eyes. Now that Princess Consort Yi beat her, everyone present would be punished.
“What?” Princess Consort Yi was stunned. She indeed wanted to beat her, but she didn’t even touch her!
“My lady, why did you do that?”
“I didn’t. What exactly is your purpose, bitch?”
“First, you slapped me. Then you called me a bitch. I’m going to tell Hai what you did to me.”
“You...you...you are talking nonsense.”
Ruxin began to weep sadly. No one could blame such a pitiful girl for anything! Meanwhile, the servants were terrified and watched Princess Consort Yi closely for fear that she would hit Lord Yi’s darling again. For the woman who had always been treated decently, this was probably the worst day of her life!
Just at that time, Yun Hai arrived. Someone was sent to inform him when Ruxin bumped into the two kids. Hearing she was “beaten” and seeing her crying, he hurriedly went up to check Ruxin’s face, without even looking at his wife and daughter beside him.
“I don’t know why Princess Consort slapped me and called me a bitch. Even the two kids told me that I’m just a low-life woman. Hai, is it because I’m getting in her way? If I’m not welcome here, I’ll just leave,” Ruxin explained in a low voice.
Finishing her words, she pretended to leave. The moment Ruxin turned around, she glanced at Princess Consort Yi with a provocative look. At that moment, there was no trace of a weak girl on her face at all.
“My lord, do you really believe what the bitch said?” Princess Consort Yi looked at her husband, who was more like a stranger to her right now, her tears flowing down. She was truly heartbroken.
But the moment she uttered the word bitch, Yun Hai threw her an angry slap, “You have no right to call her that. Someone, send Princess Consort to her room. She will be locked there to reflect on her misbehavior. Take the children away, too.” After that, he took Ruxin out without looking at anyone on the spot, including his daughter, Yun Youyun, the little girl who was clearly in shock.
At this moment, all the hopes of Princess Consort Yi turned in vain, and everything she had fought for became a joke. She didn’t mind if he ignored her, but she couldn’t allow the same thing to happen to her only daughter. Did he still have a heart? Did he still have any love for her? That woman had taken him away completely. Now both she and her daughter had become a burden.
The servant girl she trusted the most had reminded her more than once that Ruxin was going to take everything from her, that she would be miserable, and that she had to do something. But she was still hesitant, putting all the bet on his love for their child. Now with all her hope destroyed, she was pulled back to reality. Her heart was truly dead. If she didn’t do anything, she might even lose the ability to protect her own daughter once Ruxin gave birth to a child. Finally, Princess Consort Yi made up her mind. A trace of viciousness flashed across her eyes.
It was night. In the mansion of Lord Yi, there was once again an erotic scene in the master bedroom. While Ruxin was taken away by Xuan Zhi, Yun Hai, the man who should have been having fun on the bed, stood in the study room next door. The servant he trusted the most stood beside him.
“My lord, I know I shouldn’t ask, but...”
“Go ahead.”
“Why did you hurt Princess Consort Yi on purpose?”
“I’m afraid my life will end soon. I don’t want them to live a sad life thinking about me. Maybe hatred will be the best cure for their future loss. They’re in your hands now. Take good care of them. This is what I owe them.”
“My lord, you know Ruxin has been acting, but why are you risking your life for her?”
“She is different. The Yuns owe her too much. I just hope that my death can remove even a bit of her grievances.”
“But you were not the one who wanted to destroy the Kingdom of Shui.”
“I did do it for the sake of myself, though. I knew all about the past between my brother and Meng Xi. But I still helped him destroy the kingdom. Besides, I was the one who came up with a plan and made the boy open the gate. Otherwise, King Shui and his wife would have been able to escape. I just never expected my brother to be so cruel. I thought, as Meng Xi’s old lover, he would at least spare her. Also, if I didn’t take their nine-year-old girl back, she wouldn’t have to go through the pain of losing her loved ones again. This is the regret of my life.”
“But...”
“Enough. I’ve made my decision. And I’m going to pay back what I owe her. Soon it will be over!”
It was hard to tell whether people’s destiny was shaped by God or themselves. But there was always something one couldn’t stop.
It was a mild later summer’s night with cool breezes brushing people’s faces. Today was the Mid-Autumn Festival, and it was supposed to be a day for family reunions. But the moon tonight was not so round, hiding in the darkness. It seemed the waning moon foreshadowed something unusually sad tonight.
In the pavilion of Lord Yi’s backyard, delicious dishes had been served on the stone table. But Princess Consort Yi and the children did not stay for the festival. Yun Hai had sent them back to his wife’s family a few days ago.
Just before Princess Consort Yi departed, she left a jar of wine. She said she made it by herself, and she wanted to give it to Lord Yi and Ruxin as a gift, wishing that they could get married soon and be a lovely couple forever. The entire crew of servants was also sent out to celebrate the festival. Everybody was gone because Ruxin said that she wanted to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival alone with Yun Hai.
In the delicate but quiet pavilion, Yun Hai was waiting for the only love of his life. He was still betting on her heart. As long as she had some feelings for him, he would sacrifice his life with no regret.
Ruxin put on a red dress with only a pearl hairpin on her head. Her elegant face looked less glamorous and more pure, just like what she used to be. But as time passed, she had already become a whole different person. Her facial expression could be changed, but it was impossible to go back to the past when she was a naive, inexperienced girl.
Seeing her walking towards him, Yun Hai stood up and welcomed her. He then filled their cups with the wine left by his wife. Ruxin smiled sincerely, without the fake seductive look. She did feel touched by the lord, yet she still held the cup, ready to toast him.
Looking at her genuine expression, Yun Hai smiled and took her cup. However, just as he was about to drink it all up, Ruxin stopped him. Watching the face similar to Kong Yue’s, she still couldn’t take his life as she usually did to her other enemies.
“Hai, let’s not drink the wine...”
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s cold tonight. Let’s have some tea instead. I want some hot tea.”
It was worth it. After everything he had done for Ruxin, she finally felt something for him. Yun Hai drank the wine in her cup and his cup in one go, lifted the wine jar, and smashed it directly to the ground. He never looked so relieved.
It was too late. Tears formed in Ruxin’s eyes, but she quickly held them back along with the “No” she nearly shouted out. Everything went as she wanted, but she didn’t understand why she felt so terrible. Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, she tried to force out a smile but only made a weird face.
Watching her expression changing, Yun Hai felt more than satisfied. Finally, he won the bet.
“Ruxin, or maybe I should call you Princess Xi, right?”
Hidden in the dark, Xuan Zhi froze for a moment. He wanted to walk up to protect Ruxin, but Yun Hai’s confidential guards moved faster than him. With his acupoints hit, there was nothing he could do but stay on the tree. The guards didn’t intend to hurt Xuan Zhi. They just wanted their master to spend his last minutes alone with the woman he loved.
“When did you find it out?” asked Ruxin. Her voice echoed in the pavilion, sweet and soft as always.
