The construction site was a war zone. Smoke billowed from the explosions, mingling with the mist that clung to the ground. Gunfire cracked through the air, and shouting filled the chaos. Ava crouched behind a concrete pillar, her senses sharp as she scanned for the next target. Her heart pounded in her chest, but her hands were steady, gripping her weapon tightly.
Lucas was beside her, moving with precision. “We need to take out that armored vehicle,” he shouted over the noise. “It’s giving them too much cover.”
Ava nodded, her eyes darting to the hulking vehicle, which had positioned itself strategically, allowing Drayton’s men to advance under its protection. “Ryan, do we have any more explosives?” she called out.
Ryan’s voice crackled through the radio. “I’ve got a few charges left, but we’ll need to get close to plant them.”
Lucas looked at Ava, determination in his eyes. “I’ll go. Cover me.”
“No,” Ava replied sharply. “We go together. It’s too risky alone.”
