Taylor was left speechless by Natalie's sharp retort. After a moment, he tried to salvage his dignity with a wry smile. "Maybe I just like that mouth of yours, even if it does kill the mood."
Natalie rolled her eyes and focused on her meal.
Dinner wrapped up around 7:30 pm. Taylor drove Natalie home just as they had come.
The ride was unusually quiet, and Natalie almost felt like the man beside her wasn't Taylor.
About a mile from home, she glanced at him and asked out of curiosity, "Why have you been so silent this whole way?"
"Do you enjoy listening to me talk?"
"Not really."
Taylor replied nonchalantly, "There you go. If I say something you don't like, you might not let me sleep with you tonight, and then my surprise would be ruined."
"You're as calculative as always, huh?"
"Of course, I have to expect a return on my investment." Natalie remained silent. Taylor was more farsighted than she was. He knew their conversations often led nowhere.
