Chapter 28
Everyone here knew who Irene was and exactly how important she was to Hank. Speaking up would be risky, but staying silent didn't feel much safer either.
"I'm just doing what's best for the company. It's only for a couple of days. Once Hank wakes up, he'll decide himself," Irene said. Her words sounded like backing off, but actually, she was giving herself all the say in the matter.
No one wanted to contradict her—not when ticking off the boss's woman could cost them their jobs. They had to quickly figure out what kind of info could be shared with Richard, and what had to wait until Hank gave the green light himself.
Hank spent another day unconscious. Irene kicked up a fuss more than once and insisted on running several tests on him. When the doctors confirmed he wasn't brain-dead, she finally calmed down.
Footsteps kept pacing just outside the door. Irene stepped out, confused, and saw Hank's assistant hovering with an uneasy look on his face. "What's the matter with you?" she asked,
