Madeleine stared blankly at Beckett, her fingers tingling tremendously.
Beckett looked at her and extended his hand. "Give me your hand."
As if possessed, Madeleine reached out her hand but suddenly retracted when it was about to touch Beckett, she hid away in fear, mumbling, "Dirty... Dirty..."
She considered herself dirty and unworthy, staining Beckett.
In Madeleine's eyes, he was perfect, almost god-like.
She shouldn't tarnish him, not even a smidgen.
Beckett furrowed his brow once more, and he was unclear why he was bothering about her. "Apply it yourself, otherwise it will leave a scar."
Madeleine was too pale, her fingers slender and porcelain fair. The area that was scalded was particularly shocking.
