"You know she hurt someone in prison, right? That's one reason she didn't get her sentence reduced," Miles said slowly, his tone meaningful.
"Then say the whole thing," Beckett snapped, clearly losing patience.
Miles let out a breath. "She lashed out because a fellow inmate tried to strip her, humiliate her, and stirred a bunch of others to gang up on her. That kind of situation would push anyone over the edge."
Beckett's hands clenched, knuckles pale. "How is that not self-defense?"
"I'm not debating the legal angle—I'm warning you about what might trigger her," Miles replied, a slight edge in his voice. "Aren't you worried she might lose control and hurt you one day?"
Beckett slowly relaxed his fists and rubbed his brow, his voice calm but firm. "I don't care what she does. To me, she's never at fault."
