Madeleine had finally fallen asleep, though not peacefully—probably still shaken from whatever Jenny had said at the hospital.
Beckett sat beside the bed, only getting up once her breathing evened out and she settled. He headed to the living room, where his thoughts were a tangled mess.
Back at the hospital, the way Stanton looked at him… it wasn't just anger. That was pure hatred.
"You married my mom, built Beach Group with help from grandpa and her. Then I took over and grew this company piece by piece. And now this? You're seriously burning the bridge you crossed?" His words still echoed in his head.
Stanton had just snorted. "You're my son—you're supposed to listen to me. If you'd listened all along, we wouldn't be in this mess! Come help me out, Crestview's like a mad dog, locking its jaws onto Beach Group."
He rambled on angrily, probably cursing every ancestor of the folks running Crestview.
