Beckett looked like he was on the verge of breaking down on the hospital bed. He suddenly lifted his head and stared at Miles, speaking through clenched teeth. "Are you out of your mind?"
Miles let out a sigh, clearly annoyed by the long scar stretching from Beckett's back to his neck. Rubbing his forehead he muttered, "I don't know where things went sideways… I thought Madeleine would bounce back with a little push. Didn't expect it to hit so hard."
Yeah, things had definitely spiraled.
"Beckett, can you just focus on healing for once and stop playing hero? If you don't get better soon, your wife is gonna totally lose it." Miles sat down beside him, biting his words. "She dug up your mom's grave today—next time it might be Stanton's ashes in the wind. Wouldn't be surprised if she remarries the day after."
Beckett's gaze turned sharp. "You're full of crap—my wife only loves me. Just me."
