Madeleine sat on the couch for what felt like forever, waiting for any news from Owen. But nothing came.
Rachel was pacing nervously, and had just sat down when Beckett walked in.
Madeleine looked up, a bit stunned, and glanced at the clock. "You... were just video calling me at 8 this morning."
It was now five in the afternoon.
"The doctor said you shouldn't be flying…" Her voice caught in her throat. A bad feeling crept up on her.
If it were good news or if they'd found Ava, Beckett wouldn't have shown up in person.
He pulled her into his arms. "Carl drove me to Yarrin, and we took a cruise from there."
Yarrin was just a short hop to this country—barely a 1.5-hour flight.
Madeleine took a deep breath. "Just tell me… did something happen?"
Beckett's arms tightened around her.
She clutched his shirt tightly, still hoping—
Hoping Ava was still alive.
"Owen went to confirm… it's her. It's Ava," Beckett's voice was hoarse.
He knew she'd break down. That's why he rushed over.
