"Heh, Beckett's here too."
Standing at the doorway, Ruby strutted in with her designer bag swinging on her arm, the kind that screamed a few hundred grand. She spotted Beckett and her face immediately soured. "Stanton, your eldest son's here as well."
Stanton didn't look any better. Once inside, he glanced at Beckett, then let his gaze fall on Madeleine lying in the hospital bed.
Madeleine stiffened, uneasy, and instinctively sat up a little straighter.
Beckett, almost without thinking, took a step forward and positioned himself protectively between her and Ruby, his whole demeanor radiating calm pressure that firmly blocked her out.
"What's this supposed to mean, Beckett? You're standing up for her now?" Ruby's voice went shrill. "Do you even know who she is? That's your brother's fiancée—the little scammer from the Landry family."
"After all these years married into the Beach family, you haven't managed to shake off your crude mouth and cheap theatrics." Beckett shot her a cold glanc
