Chapter 122
Rita's POV
The day after Maeve and Reina were banished, I took them to a rundown motel on the outskirts of the city. It wasn’t much, but at least they each had a bed. I had to make a quick trip to the store for blackout curtains to shield them from the sunlight. I also bought one of those large sun covers people hang in their backyards, something they could carry to shield themselves during the day. Without it, the sun would have scorched them.
I paid for the room for a full week and told the front desk we didn’t need housekeeping, just fresh towels delivered daily.
I hated that they demanded my ID and registered the room under my name. That alone was proof of my involvement. More evidence. More risk. None of this was what I had planned. Maeve and Reina were supposed to stay put, not stir up trouble and get themselves exiled. I didn’t even know Maeve owned a gun, much less that she was capable of using it.
