Levi could clearly see how disappointed Carl and I were. He scratched the scar on his head, looking embarrassed as he tried to explain, "Guys, it's not that I'm being cold or that I don't care about anyone."
"Lev, don't say that," I quickly replied. "If it weren't for you just now, Carl and I would already be dragged off by Leonard. We really do appreciate everything you just did."
Levi let out a long sigh, his eyes full of helplessness as he looked at the two of us.
"To tell you the truth, I genuinely like you two. If this were last year, I'd have charged in with my guys and gone straight at Kevin without a second thought. But things are different now. I'm 'on the books' now, and I have to follow the rules."
When he said that, I thought he meant he'd become some kind of public servant or civil worker, and I was honestly shocked. I couldn't figure out how a guy like him managed to get into official work.
