CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY - When Everything Comes Crashing Down
Deonna's feet pounded against the grass as she ran, her heart hammering in her chest. The moonlight cast long shadows across the yard, making every tree and bush look like a potential hiding place for her pursuer. She could hear Emily's footsteps behind her, getting closer with each passing second.
"Why are you running, Dee?" Emily called out, her voice a mix of anger and something that sounded almost like pain. "We have so much to talk about!"
Deonna didn't waste her breath responding. Instead, she focused on putting one foot in front of the other, her mind racing to formulate a plan. The fence at the back of the yard loomed ahead. If she could just make it over, maybe she could lose Emily in the woods beyond.
As she reached the fence, Deonna's fingers scrabbled for purchase on the rough wood. She pulled herself up, her muscles screaming with the effort. Just as she was about to swing her leg over, she felt a hand grasp her ankle.
"Nice try," Emily snarled, yanking Deonna back dow
