At noon, Bethany left the company. She headed to the hospital, where Silas was already waiting inside.
"Ms. Porter, your husband is inside, so I came out," the caregiver, Olivia Miller, hurriedly explained, afraid Bethany might think she was slacking off.
Bethany smiled. "Thank you, Ms. Miller. I understand. Go and rest for a while."
She pushed open the door. There was a basin of water by Sarah's bed. Silas was wringing out a towel, preparing to wipe her face.
He smiled. "You're here."
"I just wiped Sarah's face. Her skin is a bit red. The doctor said we can apply some moisturizer to keep it hydrated. I thought I'd wash her face first, then put some on."
Bethany froze for a moment. She hadn't expected Silas to be so attentive.
She reached out. "Let me do it."
Silas didn't hand her the towel. He simply bent down. "It's fine. I've already finished. The moisturizer's in the cabinet—take it out and apply some for Sarah. Later, just remind the caregiver not to forget to do it after
