Chapter 1090
Rickard never doubted Hesper’s slyness; this was the side that had attracted him at first. She had always been strong, beautiful, and intelligent, and it seemed that there was nothing in this world that frightened her.
Just the unmatched courage that she possessed was enough to make her outshine countless others in the world.
The two returned to the Savatiers’ estate and saw Juliette coming out with a frown. She was in such a hurry that she did not even notice that the two of them had walked past her.
Hesper was a little surprised, and her eyebrows creased subconsciously. "What happened?"
Juliette was rarely seen to be in such a hurry. The only exception was when the matter was about Quincey. Hesper had never seen Juliette pay attention to anything or anyone else, so she could vaguely feel that something important had taken place. "Let’s go back and ask Grandpa about this."
Rickard nodded and strode into the main mansion with Hesper.
Walking into the mansion, they saw Quincey sitting in the main living hall. Although Quincey had completely recovered, he would usually be dealing with various affairs in his study and rarely appeared out here in the main hall.
Hesper and Rickard exchanged gazes. They were even more certain that something must have happened, so they stepped forward, walked up to Quincey, and bent down. "Grandpa, what happened?"
Quincey raised his head when he heard the voice as if he had just woken up from a dream. He was stunned for a split second when he saw Hesper’s face, but then he shook his head. "It’s nothing. There’s no need to worry."
He was obviously hiding something, so Hesper frowned but did not pursue it. After all, it did not look like Quincey was in the mood to tell her anything at this moment. Even if she were to continue to ask, she would not get the answer that she wanted, so she might as well leave him alone for now.
"You must be tired, having spent the whole day at the Rikihisas'. Go back and get some well-deserved rest." With a wave of his hand, Quincey gave off a trace of fatigue through his expression and posture. "I’ll talk to you tomorrow."
They now shared the same fate as a family, and Quincey also knew that hiding agendas from the couple would damage the trust between them, but he really did not know how to describe what had happened at the moment, so he could only shake his head.
"Okay." With Quincey’s affirmation, Hesper turned her head around, took a glance at Rickard, then left the main mansion with him.
"It’s not only Aunt Juliette, even Grandpa looks lost." Hesper frowned. "If any major problems were to arise at this juncture, Ranfik might take advantage of this crack to come at us, and all our previous efforts would be in vain."
"Let’s not overthink things just yet." Rickard grabbed Hesper’s hand and interrupted the thoughts that were going rampant in her head. "Don’t be too anxious. It’s not necessarily bad news."
Hesper knew that her mood had been disorganized by the sudden and unknown event, but everything that she had been doing all this while had been extremely draining and she was very tired at the moment. If all her plans were interrupted because of something that happened to the Savatiers at this time, Hesper could not be sure if she would still have the patience to re-arrange everything.
‘For now, all I can hope is that everything will go on the right track.’
Rubbing her temples, she and Rickard returned then to their villa together.
"Things have been hectic at the Rikihisas’ all day today. I’m so tired." Hesper took a glimpse at Rickard, lowered her gaze, and said in a delicate tone, "Turn off the lights for me, Rickard."
Although she was still calling him by his name, it sounded quite intimate, perhaps due to the elongated last note.
It also felt as if she was trying to rely more on him.
Rickard did not say much. He only rubbed Hesper’s head after turning off the light. "Go to sleep already. We’ll know what happened tomorrow."
Maybe because Rickard’s voice sounded too gentle, Hesper closed her eyes and fell asleep almost instantly. In the end, she vaguely felt something warm approach the tip of her hair and give her a tender peck.
