Chapter 1096
The more Hesper thought about it, the more things seemed off, causing her to furrow her brow. Despite her suspicions, Rickard maintained his calm demeanor. "When Camille initially approached me, I did have my doubts, but I needed the assistance of the Moreaus."
'So it was Camille who sought out Rickard in the beginning?'
At that time, Hesper and Rickard were still at odds with each other, so Hesper had no inclination to investigate the origins of their engagement. She had assumed that Rickard and Camille had reached some sort of agreement and decided to cooperate.
But now when she thought about it, there were a lot of things that did not quite add up.
"Have you contacted her since coming to this island?"
Hesper was referring to Camille. Rickard gave her a puzzled glance upon hearing the question and replied, "Why would I contact her?"
Although Hesper anticipated this response, she could not help but be taken aback by Rickard's nonchalant tone. It left her feeling both amused and exasperated.
At the very least, Rickard and Camille had a cooperative relationship. When they arrived on the island, Hesper had borrowed Camille's identity and position. Naturally, she assumed that Rickard and Camille would stay in touch and exchange information. But it turned out Rickard had not contacted Camille at all?
"Oh well, I knew it would be like this."
Hesper sighed and, in a moment of clarity, remembered the invitation card that Quincey had given her. She extended it in front of her and carefully examined it for a moment.
The invitation had a luxurious gold embossed design, exuding an aura of sophistication and grandeur. It did not give the impression that it was an event to select a wife for Ranfik.
However, for Ranfik, this matter was undoubtedly burdensome. Hesper lightly flicked the invitation card with a wry smile and said, "Well, let's give Ranfik a bit of trouble before we figure out how to deal with Pierette."
After all, Pierette was currently in the Savatiers' estate now. According to Quincey, she would likely be confined at home and not allowed to leave.
Hesper reckoned that they would inevitably encounter each other sooner or later, so there was no need to rush.
Unbeknownst to them, a private jet was being readied for departure, bound for Leafdelle Island. Sherese walked ahead, clutching a magnetic card tightly in her jacket pocket.
"Miss, please present your identity card."
On the surface, this VIP passage seemed no different from the others. However, the ticket attendant's smile and reference to the "identity card" hinted at something more. This was no ordinary identification document, but a distinct card designed specifically for residents of Leafdelle Island to authenticate their islander status.
Sherese reached out her hand and handed over the magnetic card to the attendant. Taking a brief glance at the card's design, the attendant seemed somewhat surprised but still swiped it.
"It seems that you are a bloodline who has been living outside. Welcome back to Leafdelle Island," the attendant remarked before returning the card to Sherese.
Her palm was slightly sweaty, and upon hearing that response, she let out a sigh of relief. She turned around and grabbed Camille, who was standing beside her.
"I want to take her back to Leafdelle Island with me."
The ticket attendant glanced at Camille with a hint of hesitation, then said softly, "Miss, your identity card belongs to Ms. Brigette Savatier from the Savatiers. If you were her, indeed, you would have the privilege to bring someone from outside the island with you. But you are not her."
Sherese clenched her teeth and asked, "What if I insist on bringing her?"
They locked eyes; Sherese's gaze unwavering. Eventually, the ticket attendant sighed in resignation and said, "If you are determined to do so, I'll have to contact the management of the Savatiers to inquire if you are eligible to bring someone with you."
