Chapter 129 Wise Choice
After bidding farewell to Xunsu and Beta, Mrs. Kashah hurried back home. She needed to find out what was going on with Luna.
When Mrs. Kashah arrived home, Luna had already calmed down and was packing her suitcase, apparently preparing to leave today.
"Luna, let's talk," Mrs. Kashah called gently to Luna.
Luna turned around, feeling a bit uneasy. "Mom, where did you just go? You didn't go to find Daniel, did you?"
Mrs. Kashah didn't deny it.
Luna wasn't too happy, her tone somewhat resentful. "I was the one who suggested breaking off the engagement. Why did you go to him?"
Mrs. Kashah could tell her daughter wasn't too pleased and asked, "Is that so? Then why did you suggest breaking off the engagement?"
Luna fell silent, feeling that the real reason would make her seem overly dramatic.
"Do you like Daniel?" Mrs. Kashah walked over to Luna, took her hand, and sat down together on the sofa.
Luna nodded, still not saying anything.
"Liking someone is nothing to be ashamed of," Mrs. Kashah comforted her.
"I like Daniel, but he doesn't like me. And he has someone he likes. I don't want to interfere between them," Luna looked at her mother and spoke truthfully.
Mrs. Kashah patted Luna's head, smiling kindly, "In this world, everything has an expiration date. The shelf life of liking and loving is even shorter. Luna, in the river of life, there are many things more important than feelings, such as a stable marriage and a comfortable life."
"Love can't be eaten as food, nor can it guarantee a long-term relationship. But material possessions, money, status, these can."
"Even if Daniel can love that woman for how long, can you guarantee that you will love Daniel for your whole life?"
Luna pondered for a moment, her mother's words seeming reasonable.
"When I married your father, he also had someone he loved. At that time, I didn't have much feelings for your father, but having a husband who was in love with someone else made me feel frustrated," Mrs. Kashah said.
Luna looked at her mother incredulously. She didn't expect her seemingly loving parents to actually have a strained relationship.
"Later, that woman got married, and you were born. Your father naturally cut ties with her," Mrs. Kashah said without much emotion in her voice, as if telling someone else's story.
"Look at our family now, isn't it good?" Mrs. Kashah didn't tell Luna that her father now also had another lover.
"I understand what you mean, Mom, but watching the person you like be with someone else is really painful," Luna said. She understood the reasoning, but the pain of heartbreak was something she found hard to bear.
"Luna, life is not always smooth sailing. You have to face things you don't want to face. You can't always think about running away. If in the future you meet someone you like again, you get married, and he cheats on you, what will you do then? Divorce without considering the family's reputation?" Mrs. Kashah gave a harsh example.
Luna imagined the scene and felt like she was suffocating.
"You like Daniel now, and his marriage with our family is good for both sides. Just wait until he no longer likes that woman, or until she no longer likes him, and everything will be fine in the future," Mrs. Kashah said. "This is the most correct path for you at the moment."
"But..."
Before Luna could finish her sentence, Mrs. Kashah interrupted her, "I've said what needs to be said. Luna, you're an adult, you've experienced a lot over the years and gained a lot of insight. Mom believes you will make the wisest choice."
With that, Mrs. Kashah went back to her room, leaving Luna alone in the living room.
Struggling internally for almost the entire afternoon, Luna sent a message to Daniel:
"Daniel, yesterday I was too impulsive because I drank too much. After thinking calmly, I feel that we should still cooperate, which is good for both families. As for you and Katrina, I don't object. I need the status of being your wife, and you need to marry into a wealthy family. We understand each other and are the most suitable choice for each other."
The phone on the bedside table rang, and Daniel turned over, glanced at it, then turned to ask Katrina, "Katrina, if I weren't the third young master of the Howard family and didn't have my current financial ability, would you still want to be with me?"
Katrina turned to glare at him, then gave him a fierce kick. "Don't talk like you're keeping me. Have I ever taken a penny from you?"
Daniel grinned, jokingly asking again, "What if I had no money, could you support me?"
Katrina kicked him again, "Daniel, have some shame. If you had no money, would you be disabled?"
Daniel didn't relent, pulling her into his arms and asking, "Could you support me if I were disabled?"
Katrina: ....
Daniel stopped teasing her, turned to reply to Luna's message:
"No, my most suitable choice is Katrina. I don't want to give up my true love for the sake of a marriage of convenience, nor do I want to make her suffer as a secret lover. As my friend for many years, Luna, you should understand why I made this choice, right?"
Luna didn't expect Daniel's reply to come so quickly, nor did she expect him to refuse this time.
Last time it was clearly he who proposed the marriage alliance!
Luna clenched her phone, typed and deleted several times, and finally sent out this message:
"I understand you, but will your family accept Katrina? If they don't accept her, what will you do? My friend, I'm really worried about you."
Daniel didn't expect to receive another message, and faced with Luna's concern, he politely replied:
"Don't worry about me, Luna. If the Howard family can't accept my lover, then I'm willing to give up the identity of the third young master of Howard. Sacrifice brings rewards. I won't regret it."
After reading the message, Luna's hands trembled as she deleted these messages. Then she quickly packed her things and booked a flight leaving that evening.
When Mrs. Kashah came downstairs again, she saw that Luna's suitcase was gone from her room, and the desk was tidied up neatly.
Mrs. Kashah sighed, turned to her husband and said, "Since she's not willing, let her be."
The man snorted and didn't say anything, then turned and left the house.
Mrs. Kashah leaned against the wall, squatting on the ground, silently crying.
She suddenly felt a bit envious of her daughter, who could stick to her own thoughts and follow her heart.
If only she could have refused the family's marriage alliance back then, she might have been happy with her former lover now.
Unfortunately, there were no "ifs".
And what she didn't know was that this time it was Daniel who gave up the marriage alliance, not Luna
herself actively giving it up.
