Interrogated Like A Criminal
Kira was about to respond with something nasty when Austyn started the engine. ‘Put on your seatbelt. Stop arguing.’
Deborah nodded obediently. ‘Okay.’
Kira turned away.
She was still enraged when they arrived.
Normally, she would have marvelled at the gorgeously designed restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows, long oak tables and chairs made of reclaimed wood.
But she was simply not in the mood right now.
Austyn looked at her several times.
He ordered spicy shakshouka with chorizo and braised eggs for her.
She barely touched it.
He poured her a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
She didn’t look at it.
Austyn’s face gradually darkened.
He pushed back his plate of shakshukit and stood up. ‘Excuse me, I need to make some calls.’
As soon as he left, Deborah’s phone rang.
She got up as well. ‘I’m sorry. I need to take this.’
Kira was left to seethe by herself.
She tossed aside the serviette and shot to her feet.
Deborah was walking towards the restroom down the hallway.
