"Beep, beep, beep—" The instrument connected to Harriet's body screamed desperately, signaling that someone's life had come to an end.
The ward nurses were unfazed as they came towards Harriet's bed; within a few days, they had witnessed several deaths, and more were expected.
For deceased patients with family, the hospital would notify relatives to collect the bodies. If they couldn't be reached, the nurses would take them away with their beds, store them in the morgue, and wait for family members to claim them. Unclaimed bodies would eventually be used for autopsy.
Victoria stood there watching the nurses collect Harriet's body. She had brought this upon herself; no one could save her now.
