Edward let out a cold chuckle. “Isn’t it obvious?”
William’ expression immediately tensed, a flicker of disgust flashing in his eyes.
“You think it’s her again, don’t you?”
Edward didn’t even bother pretending to be surprised. His voice dropped another degree. “Keep digging. People like her—when they get desperate—they always slip up somewhere.”
“Got it.”
Just as William responded, he suddenly remembered something.
“By the way, Mr. Hawthorne, the court verdict for those four girls who assaulted Miss Sterling is out. They’ve been charged with intentional assault. The longest sentence is a year and a half.”
His tone turned solemn. “If you think it’s too lenient, we could file an appeal.”
Without lifting his head, Edward answered flatly, “Let Miss Sterling know. It’s her call.”
She was the one who got hurt. Whether the outcome feels fair or not, that’s her judgment to make.
William nodded. “Understood.”
