Chapter 90
Alice was completely stumped by his blunt and sharp question.
She'd never liked troubling others. If it weren’t for her injuries being this bad—and his care being so subtley intense that it made her feel awkward—she wouldn’t have even considered calling a friend for help.
Ignoring the slight embarrassment tugging at her face, Edward changed the subject in a low voice. “Want some water?”
“I’m good, thanks.” She’d just had some oatmeal, wasn’t really thirsty… more like, desperate.
She glanced toward the door, silently hoping a nurse might come in to check on her and, maybe, just help her to the bathroom.
Right when she looked over for the third time, clearly anxious, Edward finally asked, not hiding his suspicion, “Waiting for someone?”
Alice felt like she couldn't hold it anymore. Whether it was the urgency or the sheer awkwardness, her cheeks heated instantly.
After a few seconds of battling with herself, she bit the bullet and asked, “Can you call a nurse for me?”
