By the third day Alice was in the hospital, Charles Bennett showed up in his white coat to check on the blood clot in her head.
“The clot has shrunk a bit. Keep up with the IV and meds, and it should clear completely with time.”
After three days of treatment and rest, Alice wasn’t in as much pain anymore. She was looking fresher, more energized.
She smiled at him, her voice sincere. “Thanks, Dr. Bennett. I really appreciate all you’ve done.”
The night of the accident, when she was rushed into the hospital, Charles had been right in the middle of another operation. He rushed over to help with her surgery the second he finished—three hours on his feet and still didn’t stop.
Other doctors mentioned he’d worked over six hours straight that night. The moment he collapsed onto the couch in the break room, he was out cold.
Charles gave her a warm smile with a teasing tone. “Just doing my job. But hey, for real, let’s not make this a habit, yeah?”
Alice chuckled. “I’ll take that as a blessing.
