Brandon’s pov ; When Ava asked about my secretary, I could feel the shift in the atmosphere. She was blunt, straightforward, and didn’t beat around the bush. It was almost disarming. "Mr. Carpenter, I heard that you have a female secretary and you have a close relationship with her?" I blinked, surprised by the question, but my expression remained neutral. "I have five secretaries—three men and two women. Which one are you talking about?" She didn’t hesitate, pressing on, “This... is naturally the one with whom you have the best relationship." I frowned slightly, confused. Why did it matter to her? "I only interact with them at work, not personally, so I can't say we have a good or bad relationship." Her eyes studied me, and I couldn't quite read her. But I didn't sense any guilt in my response—she was just digging deeper.
