Three days had passed since Vesper left. Three days I had locked myself away, refusing to eat, refusing to speak to anyone.
On the third night, the attack came.
I was awakened by screams and roars piercing the darkness. My instincts as an Alpha reacted immediately—I jumped out of bed and ran to the window.
What I saw made my blood run cold.
Wolves with jet-black fur, eyes glowing red in the darkness—the Nightveil pack. They were swarming in from all directions, vastly outnumbering our weak warriors.
“ALPHA!” Marcus kicked down my door. “We're under attack! The Nightveil pack—they're here for—”
“For me,” I cut him off, my voice flat. Of course they were here for me. A weak Alpha was easy prey.
I should have run out, led my pack, protected my pack. That was my job. That was my duty as Alpha.
But all I felt was... fear.
Fear that paralyzed me. Fear that made me realize—I wasn't strong enough. I couldn't defeat them. I would lose again, and this time I might die.
