"And I saw the non-bitchy side of Blondie for the first time ever," Leo shot back, but something in his voice had softened now, too. She scowled at him. "Do you honestly question why I'm like that? I have to be friends with someone as infuriating and annoying as you!" "I know you well by now Blondie, which means I'm not offended at all because you always insult to cover up any nice thing you say. You just called me your FRIEND." He boasted, "Now was that so hard, sweetheart?" Gabby's face reddened and Marley smiled behind her hair. Leo's right, one of her defence mechanisms is definitely to insert insults to buffer any shows of affection. But the fact that he sees through that, means that night they became closer than Marley could've believed was possible. She was happy that they finally managed to get past their defensive banter and have a real conversation on their own. It only meant they were closer to seeing the truth only they are blind to. B
