CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN – THE COST OF BETRAYAL
The journey back to the Gorroth mansion was a somber one. John leaned heavily on Karina, his wound still seeping blood. Lady Becky clutched her shoulder, her face a mask of pain and anger. Gwen loped alongside, her half-transformed state making the going difficult.
As they entered the main hall, the signs of the earlier battle were still evident - furniture overturned, scorch marks marring the walls. Karina felt a pang of sadness at the destruction of this once-grand place.
"We must treat these wounds," Gwen said gruffly. "I will fetch the healing supplies."
Lady Becky started to protest, but a look from Gwen silenced her. The older woman sank into a plush chair with a resigned sigh.
Karina helped ease John into a seat, worry etched on her face. "Let me see," she said gently, peeling back his bloodied shirt.
