Marceline held back her tears with all her might. She didn't want to cry over Curtis anymore, so she smiled and gently pushed Zachary away. "Zachary, I understand. Thank you." Then, she turned and walked into the villa complex. Her mind was in a complete daze. Before she could reach for the light switch on the wall, her scalp tingled with fear—someone was sitting inside the house. Under the faint light coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, she couldn't immediately tell who it was. Startled, she took a step back and instinctively turned to run. But the man was faster. He yanked her back and pressed her against the door. Marceline smelled a familiar scent coming from him, and it made her tear up. She raised her first and punched his shoulder hard. "Curtis, are you out of your mind?" What had she done to end up entangled with a man like him? After dragging her into the house, Curtis shut the door to the living room and pinned her against it.
