The scent of antiseptic clung to my clothes like a second skin. The ward echoed with groans, the slap of hurried footsteps, and the low, urgent voices of healers and warriors alike. Blood. Burnt fur. Muffled sobs. It was chaos, but it was my kind of chaos.
I had long since stopped thinking about Lisa. There was no time for resentment when the alliance was fraying at the seams. The failed operation at the Western border had sent shockwaves through every territory, and the neutral hospital had turned into a war zone overnight.
