“Boss?” he called out in confusion, hurrying forward. “Why are you here at this hour? Is something wrong?”
Daimon stepped onto the landing platform, wind still tugging at his coat. His gaze was calm but intense, and he raised a hand to dismiss James's concern.
“Go back to sleep,” he said simply. “I’m just here to see my woman. Don’t alert anyone. I’ll be gone by morning.”
James blinked. He’d followed Daimon through war zones, political storms, assassinations—but never had he seen his boss abandon caution like this. Never had he seen him rushed. Disarmed. Driven purely by something as human as longing.
“Boss, you…” James started, but Daimon had already passed him by, his steps purposeful, unhesitating.
