Hazel gave up trying to cover her neck and instead gripped the half-eaten sugarcane with both hands, gnawing at it like a flute player. Before long, she managed to eat a small piece, but when she tilted her head to bite into the toughest middle section, her teeth barely made a dent. Drooling from the effort, she only managed to nibble off a tiny bit. Shawn, chuckling, drove with one hand and reached out with the other. Without a word, Hazel handed the sugarcane to him. Eyes still on the road, Shawn bit into the hard middle section, breaking it apart. He even peeled off the tough outer layer before passing it back to her.
