Jaxson was taken aback to learn the kid had arrived with Augustus. However, he then remembered the recent fiasco with the power system, courtesy of Adrian's meddling. That must have been when she showed up. A tangle of emotions gripped Jaxson. After a brief pause, he gently scooped Madelyn off the ground. Her sobs quieted, and she stared at her father, her eyes wide and searching. "Okay, no more tears. I'll call your mother to come get you, alright? Are you hungry? Do you want a bite to eat?" Jaxson always felt a headache coming on when it came to Adrian, but with Madelyn, his voice softened, almost unrecognizable. Margaret was equally taken aback by the shift in Jaxson. However, Madelyn was the spitting image of Elinor, so it made sense that Jaxson would melt a little. Even she could not hide her surprise at the sight of the girl. "Then call her, please. I want to go home with Mom. She left me here all by myself, and I'm really scared," Madelyn whimpered. Madelyn was petri
