A sharp pain shot through my hip, and I winced. Mom had shoved me hard, not caring if she hurt me. Arthur, who had been calm until now, froze. Then his expression turned to ice. "Enough." His voice cracked through the air like a whip. His eyes burned with cold fury as he glared at my mother. For the first time, I saw her falter. Even as an elder, she was clearly rattled by Arthur's tone. She forced a nervous smile. "Mr. Sandlin, I'm sorry for making a scene." She shifted instantly, trying to smooth things over. "Handle your family matters at home. Don't bring them to my company," Arthur said flatly. His tone left no room for argument. Without another glance, he turned and walked toward his car. My hip still throbbed as I stood there, heat crawling up my face. Humiliation and anger twisted inside me. Mom had shoved me like I was nothing, and now this. "Mr. Sandlin, wait," Mom called after him, hurrying a few steps. "About what I mentioned earlier, do you think it's possible?" Arthur sto
