Chapter 40: Lashing Out at the Scumbag
I tried to call out to the Uber driver, but he completely ignored me. He stepped on the gas and sped off down the street.
I stood there watching the car disappear, then turned on Julian, furious. It was late, and I had finally managed to catch a ride. Now it was gone. All because of him. What was I supposed to do, walk home?
"Julian Shepherd, what is wrong with you? Why didn't you let me get in the car?"
I glared at him, my voice loud and sharp, my hands clenched at my sides.
"Serena, I'll take you home. We can talk on the way."
He didn't flinch. He didn't even look upset. He just reached out to take my hand like everything was normal, like he still had the right.
"No. I'd rather walk home than ride with you. And I already told you, we have nothing left to say."
I pulled my hand back and stepped away, still boiling with anger over how he had stopped me.
"Since when did you get so stubborn? You used to be sweet."
Julian's expression shifted. His voice dropped, edged with frustration.
