IS IT REALLY OVER?
LUCIEN’S POINT OF VIEW.
The sound of the sirens had barely faded away as I stared at the fleet of police cars drive off the street and round the corner, when the voice of my father ricocheted in the back of my skull again;
‘You’re going to die, Sloane.’
He had another thing coming if he thought I would let him even get within an inch of square ground near her. My arm curled protectively around her as she tightened her hold on me. I felt her tremble against me, and I knew the words the bastard had spoken had gotten to her. My hand pulled her even closer to me, as my jaw tightened. I wished so hard that it was possible to hide her inside my chest; as long as Eldric Hayes’s eyes never looked in her direction, talk less of her ever again.
“It’s over, Lucien.” I heard Aunt Erika say from beside me, her voice jolting me from my thoughts as I stared at the place the fleet of cars had turned to. For some reason, I didn’t feel settled in my spirit.
Which was odd, because I should, right?
