Chapter 24

The surgery lasted for 37 hours. Jared waited outside the operating theatre the entire time without moving a muscle, waiting for Tamara. Even the nurse he'd grabbed and yelled at earlier couldn't refrain herself from asking him what he was doing there. In all honesty, Jared had no idea what he was doing either. After the nurse called Tamara away during their private talk, he instinctively reached out to grab Tamara's hand and stop her from leaving, but she had given him an expressionless look while saying the most chilling words to him. "There are a lot of things that are more important than your feelings, Jared Fender. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go and save a life." For some reason, Jared felt his heart shudder hard at her words. He still couldn't pull himself back to the present even after Tamara had left.
