Terence spotted the box of bottled water on the dining table. He walked over and grabbed two bottles. "Thank you for taking care of Mary," he said as he offered one of the bottles to Hayden. Hayden accepted the bottled water with both hands. "You don't have to thank me. I was just doing what I needed to do." As soon as the words left his mouth, he noticed Terence's scrutinizing stare on him. He rushed to explain himself, "I just mean—she helped Lily a lot in the past. If she needed my help, naturally I would help her as much as I can." "Tell me how you and Mary decided to get married." Terence still wasn't privy to all the details that had led Hayden and Maryanne to this point. Hayden told him everything—how they got married, to the few times they discussed getting a divorce. But he let out the part where Maryanne had told him that she liked him and wanted to be with him. "Thank you for helping Mary.
