23. The Mission

Chapter 23 “Huh…” I scratched the back of my head, staring at her blankly. I didn’t even have a believable lie ready. “We’ve been looking for you,” Rosa said, her arms folded under her chest. Just then, Lina walked in. She didn’t say a word to Rosa, just moved past her and stood right in front of me. “Why did you sleep in the cabana? Are we disturbing you or something?” she asked, her tone clipped but not exactly cold. “Huh?” My brows furrowed. Sleep at the cabana? What was she talking about? “Weren’t you there?” She tilted her head slightly. “I thought you slept there and forgot your phone.” She handed me my phone and my eyes widened in surprise. I didn’t even realize I didn’t have it with me. I left it yesterday when I was with Lorenzo. My heart skipped. This could work, this is an opportunity. I took the phone from her and gave her an awkward smile, trying to play it cool. “Ahh… yeah, I slept in the cabana. Your guys were literally stumbling all over me inside, I needed some peace.”
