Elsie hadn’t walked far before regret hit her.
Not for any profound reason—she’d simply forgotten to get her backpack back from William.
Olivia and Sophia were on opposite sides again, glaring daggers at each other.
Sophia let out a quick snort. “What’s Elsie trying to pull now, acting all saintly?”
Olivia, halfway through an energy bar, rolled her eyes hard enough to strain something. The “I’ve-seen-all-the-fake-sweethearts-this-world-has-to-offer” energy was strong in her voice. “Our Elsie’s got a good heart. Wanna bet Grace didn’t actually twist her ankle?”
Sophia scoffed. “And how would you even know that for sure?”
“That’s easy,” Olivia grinned. “Once we’re back, sneak up behind her and yell ‘boo!’ If she jumps, she’s faking it.”
“...” Sophia was speechless, shook her head, and stomped off.
Olivia found herself more amused the more she talked. She kept following Sophia, throwing snide comments about Grace left and right.
Sophia’s face said it all: Don’t buy it.
